Gamba di Pernice Vintage:2020Vino da Tavola Grape: Gamba di Pernice This is all nutmeg, black pepper, black cherry and sloe; deep, rich and remarkably accessible tannins. 15% Villa Giada Producer Page Gamba di Pernice is one of oldest Piemontese grape varieties, it is named after the vines red stem (leg of the partridge, a French Partridge by the sound of it) and, whilst I understand it being overlooked (it is extremely rare), letting it languish as Vino Rosso right up to 2011

This wine was then transferred to Slovenian oak botti (large barrels of 48hl and 25hl) where it was left to mature for 3 years

The remaining fruit was thinned and by harvest time there were only enough healthy grapes to fill just one 25hl Slavonian botti*

sometimes against all the odds

a powerful and elemental wine

I would describe this as pretty full-bodied

which is opening out wonderfully and will be magnificent

a pair of which overlook the terraces at Majolini

southwest facing vineyard high above the valley floor at 450m

tension and balance with the finest of tannins
