Serpentine 2Serpentine minerals form where peridotite dunite, and other ultramafic rocks undergo hydrothermal metamorphism. They are metamorphosed at convergent plate boundaries where an oceanic plate is pushed down into the mantle. The source of water for this process is seawater entrained in the rocks and sediments of the oceanic slab. During hydrothermal metamorphism, olivine and pyroxene minerals are transformed into or are replaced by serpentine minerals.

The stone is 2 3/4 inch x 1 inch

shortly after it died to prevent the oxygen from continuing the decomposition process

It is a form of mudrock approximately 150 million years old

Minimum of two isolation coats applied before varnish
